Mobile Systems Capabilities for Transuranic Waste Characterization and Privatization Initiative
The U.S. Department of Energy, Carlsbad
Field Office (CBFO) has developed a comprehensive database
documenting all available technologies related to mobile characterization,
treatment, and repackaging of transuranic (TRU) waste. The CAO
will use this compilation in its mission to certify TRU waste
for disposal. This undertaking took the cooperation of companies
from the private sector and several national laboratories active
in the research, development, and engineering of mobile waste
measurement systems applicable to TRU waste characterization.
The CBFO solicited information from companies in the U.S. and
abroad. The information obtained thus far corresponds to the following
broad technical categories:
Characterization
-
Nondestructive Examination
-
Nondestructive Assay
-
Visual Examination
-
Headspace Gas Analysis
-
Drum Coring and Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Sampling
-
Resource Conservation and Recovery Act Analysis
Radiochemistry
Repackaging
Drum Venting
TRUPACT Mobile Loading and Unloading
Decommissioning, Decontamination, and Treatment
Data Validation
