The OMNISita Project at WIPP

The OMNISita prototype is being installed in an unused alcove. The full OMNIS detector will be installed in the north experimental gallery.

OMNISita (the little OMNIS detector) is to be located in WIPP's former core storage alcove, as indicated at left.  The arrow points to a tiny red room, which is actually 10m x 50m and about 5m high.  WIPP has installed a separate air system to bring fresh air (from the air intake shaft) to ventilate the alcove and keep the experimental area virtually dust free.

The OMNISita prototype consists of a 50-ton lead detector with photomultiplier tubes and liquid scintillometers.
