Community, State and Congressional Support for WIPP as a host for Underground Experiments |
With the economic benefit of additional scope at the WIPP facility and jobs for Southeastern New Mexico, the support of the local community for using WIPP as an underground research laboratory is very strong. Indeed, the Regular 2001 Session of both the House and Senate of the State of New Mexico passed Memorials calling for DOE to continue to make the WIPP underground available to particle astrophysics experiments.
