Generation U.S. Underground Science Facility

Workshop Purpose: Explore the potential need and use
of the WIPP underground as a next generation laboratory for conducting nuclear and
particle astrophysics, as well as other basic science research.
Workshop Venue: Pecos River Conference
and Convention Center in Carlsbad, New Mexico.
Hosts: Department of Energy Carlsbad Area Office
and the Institute for Nuclear
and Particle Astrophysics and Cosmology (INPAC)
With a strong agenda of invited presentations, the workshop
organizers are keeping ample time open for contributed talks by any participants.
Attendees are invited to contact any of the workshop organizers
to discuss their desire to be part of the program.

Guest Lecturer Dr. Lawrence Krauss of Case
Western Reserve University, will give his famous "Physics
of Star Trek" lecture as part of the banquet. Local community leaders and
WIPP Project personnel will be on hand to discuss the WIPP project and the possibility of
conducting nuclear and particle physics research at the facility.

To accommodate participants who cannot attend the WIPP tour
on Monday afternoon (limited to 35 visitors), there will be a second tour scheduled (on a
first-come, first-served basis) for Wednesday afternoon. Please indicate your

Non U.S. Citizens:
While the WIPP facility is not subject to many of the
security clearance restrictions placed on some other DOE facilities, there are some
national security processes that must be followed for visits to WIPP made by non-US
citizens (foreign nationals). These consist of a simple embassy check and require
that foreign national visitors provide additional
citizenship information 45 days in advance of the visit (by April 26, 2000).
Non U.S. Citizens may attend all workshop sessions without
the additional citizenship information. The additional information is only necessary
for individuals who would like to participate in the tour of the WIPP.
