WIPP Community Forum


Senior leaders from EM’s Waste Isolation Pilot Plant (WIPP) hosted a Community Forum & Open House on July 7 at the Santa Fe Convention Center in Santa Fe, New Mexico. Presented by Department of Energy (DOE) Carlsbad Field Office (CBFO) Manager Reinhard Knerr and operations contractor Nuclear Waste Partnership (NWP) President and Project Manager Sean Dunagan, the meeting included updates and progress on WIPP capital asset projects, infrastructure upgrades, transportation, and facility operations.

Community Forum in Sante Fe
Moderator Eric Roberts, CBFO Manager Reinhard Knerr, and Nuclear Waste Partnership President and Project Manager Sean Dunagan deliver a presentation on capital asset projects, infrastructure upgrades, transportation, and facility operations to interested stakeholders.

With over 250 stakeholders in attendance, both in person and via zoom, participants had the opportunity to submit questions about concerns or curiosities after the initial presentation. Submitted topics ranged from transportation logistics to economic impact inquires. Afterwards, Department of Energy headquarters staff and WIPP leadership hosted an open house where participants had one-on-one conversations with leadership in a sit-down roundtable style session.
